storying

Stories, the myths and memes and grandma's wisdoms, shape the prisms through which we perceive the world and our place within it. Many inherited perspectives feel so familiar that they're easily assumed as natural or universal.
It's upon these narrative foundation that we build our logics, systems and communities.
Those of us raised by modernity have unwittingly inherited a worldview based on separation, competition and domination. Even if our intention to create improved systems is sincere, if we don't encounter and untangle these narratives we are bound to reproduce the harms they illicit.
To start recovering a sense of wholeness complexity and interdependence asks for a healing from universalism and dualism (ALWAYS this OR that) and find groundedness in pluralism and dyads (this AND that AND more) through stories, questions and narrative practices.
This is a layered and vulnerable process, and our eyes will need time to adjust to the expanded view.

To allow a truly just and sustainable transition towards a life-nourishing, regenerative coexistence, we feel the call to dig deep and collectively re-member the stories holding our ecological roots and rebuild narratives from there, together.

Susanne's extensive experience in film making, world building, campaign creation and story coaching merge with a deep interest in emotive collective dynamics and mythology into an ecosystem of applied unfurling and re-storying.

Our gatherings and extended network allow us to ideate, develop and test narrative tools, as art installations, experiences, rituals and educational / social tools we have started to publish.

Emotional Compost Box

launched at Feÿtopia 2023/24 season, this box invites residents and visitors to release outdated core beliefs and old patterns by writing them onto wildflower seed paper and adding them to this seasons collection which will be planted into a dedicated wildflower patch to celebrate cycles and the personal work we each do.

Unfurling cards

To counterbalance the public discourses dominated by right and wrong, good and bad, these question cards invite us into into a space beyond absolutes—a space of curiosity, nuance, and connection. The 77 questions become bridges into open-ended, -hearted and -minded conversations and imaginings that (re)connect us to polyphonic narrative traditions and deepen connection.

we're sprouting and seeding a narrative tradition of multi-voiced & empathetic filmmaking ready to compost our outgoing culture of hyperindividualized and solution-focussed content. This direction has been developing over two decades working for brands and braodcasters, experiencing the hero-centred Holllywood process and sensing that our moving image spectrum is ripe for broadening

Table of Tales

during our 6-week Unfurling Domesticity residency, the dinner table became a continuous collective canvas, covered in a natural cotton cloth with pens and yarn encouraging residents to express themselves across it. This created an atmosphere of story sharing and awe at the range of expressions, especially among many residents who did not consider themselves creative.

Treestesses' Altar

in collaboration with artist duo Eveleigh-Evans we created a space for grieving and gratitude at the Unfurling Domesticity residency. A rammed earth disk made from soils found onsite provided a platform for offerings and during the 6 week period residents could observe the disintegration of the altar as it the stories it now carried returned back into the natural cycle.

Letter to an Ancestor

during the ecoweaving gathering at Wilbur we introduced a ritual of writing a letter to an ancestor (known or unknown) with prompts around living in ever-changing worlds. The wildflower seed paper was then planted to remind us of the cyclical potential of time as we broaden our sense of generational connection into past and future.

Shadow Bathing Grove

In collaboation with the Plantoid art project, we created an immersive experience at Synesthesia Festival in Portugals The Garden, where a series of prompts invites visitors to reflect on the subliminal aspects of their dislikes and fears. blending, psychological insight, empathy, humour and generative ai with unique worldbuilding made this a powerful experience for many.

Forest Frames

for Feÿ Arts 2024 we installed wooden picture frames across the forest as a simple but impactful reminder of the beauty all around us already but also an invitation to reflect on the modern human's tendency to look at parts of a whole interconnected system
